Children learn by discovery. They discover things on their own, if given the right environment and tools. Confidence and self-esteem enhance from this process of observation and discovery. The Montessori method combines mixed-age classes with a conscientiously prepared environment of learning materials and flexible daily experiences. Highly qualified teachers and assistants facilitate the learning process by guiding the children toward meaningful activity, through which they discover and develop their interests and abilities and experience the outcomes of their choices. Special emphasis is focused on respect for self, for others and for the physical environment.
First Discoveries Montessori Academy pursues the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori. We believe that within each preschool child is the seed of limitless potential that will guide them into adulthood. We underline individualized education as opposed to strict curricular education utilized within a day care setting.
Children are educated at their own standard of development. Our focus is to continually stimulate the child through an enriched environment with activities, materials and extensions that encourage experimentation at every developmental stage. In essence, we offer the world on a silver platter knowing that the natural curiosity of children will promote independence, exploration, experimentation and creativity.
Contemporary research shows that at least 80 percent of a child’s brain development takes place by the age of three. It suggests that as much as 30 percent of a child’s brain capacity can be wasted without an early environment that encourages learning. We believe that the most important years of a child’s education are not secondary and tertiary levels, but the preschool years, which are within the first six years of a child’s life. Our goal is to look upon each student as an individual. This philosophy is in direct contradiction to a traditional day care setting. Respecting and responding to each student on an individual level produces self-discipline and a life-long love of education.
We offer a thought-provoking answer to the question, “Have I properly prepared my child for the life that lies ahead?” It is a natural process for your child to become proficient, confident, charitable and a skilled individual learner. We believe that you will find our philosophy superior to any day care setting.
